When country duo Trailer Flowers walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2023, they were excited to share their music with the world. The roommates and best friends from Tennessee believed they had chosen the perfect song to impress the judges. As Brooke and Jack began singing Luke Bryan’s upbeat hit “Country Girl (Shake It For Me),” Simon Cowell suddenly raised his hand and stopped the performance. The audience fell silent. For many contestants, being interrupted by Simon is a nightmare and often signals the end of the road.
Instead of sending them home, Simon asked a surprising question: “Do you have another song?” He explained that he felt the performance wasn’t showing who they really were as artists. Nervous but hopeful, the duo revealed they had an original song prepared.
